Our Story
The Fiddlin' Pig
Est. 2024
(or was it 2019?)
The story of our little pub begins on a family trip to England in 2019. We saw London, Bath, Oxford and more. Seeing the sights was fun, but the true highlights of our trip were the small pubs tucked away on street corners. We couldn't wait to try a new pub each night. Chat with the Publican and Landlady, try their English Ales, and the classic British fare. Our plane ride back to Virginia was full of daydreaming - "What if Smithfield had a pub like that?"
David and Mischelle have since been back the UK numerous times - including Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. All a part of what the Landlady likes to call "a glorified pub crawl." Their favorites are the small village pubs. A place where the whole village comes to unwind — familiar faces, easy conversation, and a pint that always tastes better among neighbors.
When the opportunity arose to bring the pub dream to a reality - to bring a village pub to our hometown of Smithfield - we knew we had to make it happen. The Fiddlin' Pig was officially opened in August of 2024. We have made countless memories and can't wait for many more years to come!

The First Ever Hanging Pub Sign
Fun fact! After months of hearing David dream about "The Fiddlin' Pig," our daughter, Emmi, hand painted a sign inspired by classic hanging signs in English villages. This sign became the inspiration for our current sign that hangs outside the pub! You can still see this original sign on the wall at our bar.
Picture is of our Publican, David, opening the present on Christmas morning - looking truly chuffed.
